Helping clients open an account is the first step in approaching customers. For better a customer experience, Mega International Commercial Bank (Megabank) created the STM (Smart Teller Machine) as a solution to reducing waiting time and minimizing the number of application forms and signatures to be filled by clients.

The STM verifies a new account by pulling numerous items such as “denied onboarding lists”, “sanction lists”, “PEPs lists”, “negative news”, “other internal watch lists”, “the Joint Credit Information Center”, “the Judicial Yuan website”, “current client information”, “the seal system”, and “image databases”. Concurrently, business and application forms from “debit cards”, “Online banks”, and “One-time Password Tokens” also need to be integrated into its system. The amount of work and systems involved are wide-ranging and complicated.

Through its various technological functions, the time needed for Megabank’s clients to open an account has been minimized from 90 minutes to 18 minutes. This is a major improvement for Megabank’s customers’ user experience.

Highlights
  • Data Concatenation: STM uses API (Application Programming Interface) to centralize data for fast processes. When websites or data sources cannot be applied by API, STM uses RPA (Robotic Process Automation) to retrieve the data required.
  • Document Inspection and Data Input: STM scans ID cards and takes photocopies under different light sources (white light, UV light, and backlight), helping bank tellers identify the security designs on ID cards digitally. It also uses OCR (Optical Character Recognition) so clients can reduce repetitive typing.
  • Digitalized Documents: STM integrates those necessary application forms for opening an account. Clients can make immediate inquiries for quick confirmation, and only one application paper is printed out for signing.
  • Synchronous Service: The screen that clients view is also shown to the bank tells. STM immediately verifies data and gives results and corresponding suggestions to bank tellers so that bank tellers can act promptly and correctly.
