ABB Accelerator is an innovation program that transforms the traditional hackathon into a strategic, business-aligned platform. It began within the Information Systems function and quickly scaled to encompass all four ABB Business Areas. Its core purpose is to drive cross-functional innovation, empower employees with an intrapreneurial mindset, and deliver scalable solutions aligned with ABB’s strategic goals.
What makes Accelerator unique is its fusion of advanced technologies, such as Data & AI, automation, application & business process monitoring, with multidisciplinary collaboration. Each event brings together hundreds of participants and external partners to co-create solutions that address real business challenges. The Bangalore edition in September 2024 marked a turning point by focusing on the Process Automation business, resulting in 215 use cases and over 600 participants.
The program’s replicable model has since expanded to Mexico (Electrification business) and China (Robotics & Discrete Automation business), generating 555 approved use cases and 427 working solutions. The next edition is planned in the USA for the Motion business. Supported by ABB’s Executive Committee and powered by a robust Core Platform, Accelerator enables rapid development through shared infrastructure, DevOps tools, AI services and expertise.
Beyond technology, Accelerator fosters a culture of innovation, continuous learning, and strategic impact making it a cornerstone of ABB’s digital transformation and a benchmark for innovation in global industrial organizations.
