Hip Hing has developed a BIM-driven CAVE (Cave Automatic Virtual Environment) system to provide an immersive virtual reality (VR) experience. This BIM CAVE technology utilizes projectors or high-resolution LED screens on the walls, ceiling, and floor to display a life-sized virtual model of the building, creating a truly immersive environment for spatial visualization and exploration.
Unlike traditional VR setups that use headsets, the BIM CAVE allows multiple users to simultaneously experience and interact with the virtual building model. This collaborative approach facilitates better understanding and decision-making among project stakeholders.
The BIM CAVE has been applied extensively across three key domains: training, including safety procedure instruction, frontline staff awareness training, and technician skills development; virtual experience, such as show flat presentations for end-users and aesthetic reviews for designers; and project facilitation, supporting coordination in immersive environments, constructability reviews by management, and as-built status recording for inspections.
To enhance the flexibility and scalability of the BIM CAVE, Hip Hing has developed a mobile MiC (Modular Integrated Construction) BIM CAVE solution introduced in 2024.
This mobile unit minimizes the need for stakeholder commuting and facilitates easier gathering of project team members in a centralized location. The MiC BIM CAVE incorporates state-of-the-art technologies, including a collaboration with eCLP to adopt high-energy output power banks and other innovative MiC approaches.
By leveraging the BIM CAVE and its mobile MiC variant, Hip Hing aims to optimize the utilization of this virtual reality technology across all of its projects, enabling enhanced training, virtual experiences, and improved project coordination and decision-making.
