Olam Direct is Olam’s digital origination model to bring transparency and traceability to the agriculture supply chain.

In most places where Olam sources commodities, supply chains are very rural and fragmented. Without access to market price and often located in remote areas, farmers often do not have the insight needed to negotiate with intermediaries nor to plan when, when and to whom they should sell their product at their full earnings potential.

Olam Direct was developed in 2016/2017 to provide smallholder farmers with a direct platform to sell their products. It is practical and easy to use. Once registered, farmers are connected directly with Olam to ensure a fair and transparent sourcing process and improved traceability. Using their own phone, they can raise a sales intent, fix a contract, sell at a price of their choosing, and receive payment. By by-passing intermediaries and with market price visibility, farmers receive increased value for their product. Olam Direct will cover 70,000 farmers in 12 countries. It aims to reach 80,000 farmers across 14 countries by the end of the year.

Olam Direct doesn’t only exist for making transactions. It also fosters an ecosystem of transformational opportunities by creating new jobs in these rural economies, particularly for entrepreneurial youth who are better at mastering digital solutions.
